Fundraiser Announcement

I’m excited to announce that next month, I will be shaving my head in honour of 5 years since my mother’s passing. Over this next month I will be campaigning for 2 different causes, and I’d like to take some time to explain why I’ve chosen these.

As I share this, I respect that particularly for those who knew Mama, or those who have lost loved ones to cancer this may be hard to read, so proceed with care.

Many people will know that my mum died of ovarian cancer. As with many cancers, it is not the cancer specifically that kills, but in the case of my mother, the blockage to her digestive system it caused. Simply put, my mother died of slow starvation over the course of 7 months. Her body became one I recognised only from photos of famine. In her last few months, I was constantly confronted by this, by the knowledge that this kind of suffering happens to millions, many of whom are children. It is to honour this part of my mum’s journey, of my journey that I have decided to fundraise for Palestine and Sudan.

Both Palestine and Sudan have ongoing humanitarian crises, and both are areas that have been deeply impacted by man-made famine, among many other genocidal tools. That any government or power would willingly and wilfully create this kind of end sickens me, and my heart breaks for the millions of people living under these conditions.

Over the next month, I will be posting further information, resources and actions for you to get involved with. I encourage everyone to get involved with as much as they can, many of these things will take as little as 2 minutes of your time.
